The Experienced Rider Course (ERC) was developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
Even if you've been riding for some time, there's always something new to learn. Increasing numbers of seasoned riders are flocking to the half-day (4-6 hours) Experienced Rider Course to hone their skills and fine-tune the mental skills needed for survival in traffic.

You'll discuss with your fellow HOG Harley Owners Group®, members how to balance the mental and physical aspects of safe riding, manage risk, increase visibility and optimize your lane position. The Experienced Rider Course also covers protective gear, rider responsibility, motorcycle inspection and care, the effects of alcohol and other drugs on riding.

The ERC Suite courses may qualify graduates for insurance premium discounts with some motorcycle insurers. At the Harley Owners Group®, safe riding is a top priority. So, to encourage all our members to ride as skillfully and safely as possible, we offer tuition reimbursement up to US $50.00 (in the form of a coupon). We at Stormy Hill will further offer any Local HOG member a $20.00 gift certificate on your account at Stormy Hill.

Your passenger can take the ERC with you. They will gain a better understanding of “why-you-do-what-you-do” while riding and learn techniques for riding more safely “two-up.”

You must wear protective gear as follows:
DOT approved helmet & eye protection
Full-fingered gloves
Long sleeved shirt or jacket
Long pants
Sturdy, over-the-ankle footwear
Class size is limited to 4 students

ERC OUTLINE:
5 to 6 hour course
All range-work - no classroom
Open to
licensed motorcyclists (Under age 18 will require the notarized signature of a parent or guardian - contact us for a copy of the paperwork!)
ERC exercises are performed on your own motorcycle.
You must provide your own street-legal, registered, insured and inspected motorcycle (you will need to provide your motorcycle registration and insurance card and your bike must pass the Rider Coaches’ pre-course safety check.)

At the Harley Owners Group®, safe riding is a top priority. So, to encourage all our members to ride as skillfully and safely as possible, we offer tuition reimbursement up to US $50* (in the form of a coupon - see guidelines below) for the successful completion of an accredited
Motorcycle Safety Foundation <http://www.msf-usa.org/>** rider training course (Motorcycle & Moped Industry Council course in Canada), or Harley-Davidson Rider's Edge® <http://www.ridersedge.com/> course. Successful students will also receive a pin and patch featuring the "Safe Rider Skills" logo. The cost of the course is $90.00.

As a further incentive, H.O.G. chapters with at least 12 members completing a course in a single calendar year will receive special recognition: a Safe Rider Skills plaque.

Official 2009 guidelines:
You must be a current H.O.G. member
On the date the course began, and you must send the proper documentation within three months of the course completion date.
Reimbursement will be in the form of a H.O.G. coupon, which may be applied toward H.O.G. membership renewal or H.O.G. and Genuine Harley-Davidson® merchandise.
Limited to reimbursement for one course annually.
Maximum reimbursement is US $50*, and does not cover the cost of training books, videos, etc.
Tuition reimbursement coupon and/or pin and patch can be obtained by submitting a completed form with a copy of course receipt and MSF (MMIC) or Rider's Edge certificate indicating successful completion of the course. Forms are available
online <forms/safe_rider_skills.pdf>, at your local dealer or by contacting the H.O.G. office <../utility/contact/contact.jsp>. Send forms to: Safe Rider Skills, c/o H.O.G. office.
After a minimum of 12 members from one chapter complete an accredited rider training course during the 2009 calendar year and have submitted their individual certificates to H.O.G., a Safe Rider Skills chapter plaque will automatically be sent to the sponsoring dealer.
